Kotak Mahindra Bank was initially a finance company called Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd, starting at 1985 and now to become one of the country’s most trusted financial institutions, it’s been quite a journey. Here are some of the biggest milestone that Kotak Mahindra Finance crossed along the way.


At the time of staring the company 1985, Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd. Commences bill discounting and they entry in to lease and hire purchase business. Slowly and strongly they launch auto finance division for financing passenger cars. Later, they establish the investment banking division.

In 1995, They entered in to a partnership with Goldman Sachs Group and launch Kotak Mahindra Capital Company (KMCC) for investment Banking.

Then they want to create separate institution for separate financial needs. The group’s auto finance business is segregated in to a separate company, Kotak Mahindra Primus Ltd. (now known as Kotak Mahindra Prime Ltd.), a joint venture with Ford Credit to finance non-Ford vehicles.

In 1998, One of the Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd.’s group company, Kotak Mahindra Asset Management company had launched India’s first gilt fund.

In 2003 the parent organization of Kotak Group, Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd. Converted in to a commercial Bank. KMFL becomes the India’s first non-banking finance company to converted as a Bank. Later they planned to enter alternate business with the launch of a private equity fund.

In 2005, Kotak Mahindra Group realigns its joint venture with Ford Credit International (FCI). Under the realignment, the group gains complete ownership of Kotak Mahindra Prime (KMP) by acquiring the 40% stake previously held by FCI.

At the same time, the group also sells its stakes in Ford Credit Kotak Mahindra Ltd. (FCKM) to FCI, thereby giving Ford 100% ownership of the company.


The group bought out Goldman Sach’s equity stake in KMCC and Kotak Securities Ltd and opened the Bank’s representative office in Dubai.

Kotak launched pension fund under India’s National Pension System. That was done by the bank’s own efforts to encourage citizens to save towards their retirement.

As part of efforts to harness new platforms and technologies for its consumers, Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited announces several cutting-edge solutions.

That includes Jifi, a one-of-its-kind fully integrated social Bank account, and KayPay, the world’s first bank-agnostic instant fund transfer platform using Facebook.

Due to Kotak’s efficient work and improvement in banking sector, RBI approves merger of ING Vysya Bank with Kotak Mahindra Bank effective from April 1, 2015. Also, in 2016, Kotak Mahindra Bank acquires BSS Microfinance Private Limited.
